Some men have enhanced male breast development, either because they have lost a lot of weight and have sagging, excess skin or because the underlying breast tissue has grown, (gynaecomastia).
Male breast reduction is an operation to reduce the size of the breasts by removing excess fat, glandular tissue and skin from the area, to make the breast flatter.
A cut is made either around the areola, (the dark skin surrounding the nipple), or under your arm. Excess fat, skin and breast tissue is then removed. Liposuction is occasionally performed at the same time if there is excess fat around the area. Very occasionally cuts may extend further down the chest and the nipples may need to be repositioned.

The best candidates for male breast reduction surgery are men who are looking for improvement, not perfection, in the way they look. If you're physically healthy and realistic in your expectations, you may be a good candidate.
You will be able to resume everyday activities after a few days, but must avoid lifting objects over the head or making fast movements during the first 4 weeks.
The individual post-operative process is very important and client can participate on that by following the instructions given by the plastic surgeon and the healthy diet.
After 2 weeks, the patient can return to everyday activities, avoiding strong physical efforts. Any bruising and swelling will usually dissipate within a month.
The surgery leaves permanent scars which may, initially, be lumpy and red, but which should eventually fade close to your natural skin colour over several months. These scars may be more noticeable if you smoke.
You may also be left with asymmetrical nipples, and permanent loss of sensation in the nipples.

In extreme cases plastic surgeon removes also excess skin, resulting in a chest that is flatter, firmer, and better contoured.

Male Breast Reduction – Operation
Both types of Male Breast Reduction surgeries take 60–90 minutes, are performed in a general anaesthetic and you will stay for one night at the clinic. Plastic surgeons tend to use dissolving stitches which do not need to be removed. Suggest stay is 4 nights – 1 at the clinic and at least 3 nights locally.
Large Male Breast Reduction Surgery
- Large Male Breast Reduction Surgery is advised for clients who have a significant amount of chest fat and if the glandular tissue is enlarged. Plastic surgeon removes the fat tissue with tumescent power assisted liposuction and performs an incision on the line of your areola (the coloured area around the nipple), where he would remove the glandular tissue.
- Medium Gynecomastia is a cosmetic surgery advised for men who have excess fat tissue in the area of chest and the glandular tissue is not enlarged. Our plastic surgeon would perform tumescent power assisted liposuction. Your skin has to be firm and elastic, to accept the loss of volume. On each side of your breast (chest) you will have 2–5 millimetres long scars.
Post-operative course – Male Breast Reduction (Gynekomastia)
This can be clinic dependant, but typically it will follow this format: The patient will usually stay at the clinic for 1 night and will wear a compression bandage. This is already included in the price of male breast reduction. If a drain is introduced during the surgery, it is removed within 24 hours.
It is not possible to sleep on the abdomen for a period of 5 weeks. Within a few days you can shower. When you will be released from the clinic you will be given instructions from the plastic surgeons how to exchange the dressings. Every 2–3 days your plastic surgeon can keep an eye on your recovery.

How Will I Feel after the Male Breast Reduction Surgery?
You will probably feel tired, sleepy and suffer from pain especially in 1–3 days after the surgery. Your plastic surgeon might also prescribe antibiotics as a prevention of any potential infection and also tablets for reducing the swelling.
You might also feel unhappy after a few days. This is normal and is caused due to the stress, general anaesthetic, lack of patience with the healing problems, more pain than you expected or the fact that because you underwent male breast reduction abroad you miss your home and family.

Is the Male Breast Reduction Recovery Painful?
According to our client’s experience they do feel some pain, especially during the first days. However, when leaving the clinic you will be prescribe painkillers by your plastic surgeon. The specific risks and the suitability of Male Breast Reduction for a given individual can be determined only at the time of consultation. All surgical procedures have some degree of risk.
