Brow and Forehead Lift - Cosmetic Surgey Abroad, Prague, Czech Republic.
A brow lift is a surgical operation that can take place either under a general or local anaesthetic. There are two techniques that can be used: open and endoscopic. Both procedures can take up to two hours.
With an open brow lift, the cosmetic surgeon makes a long incision across the forehead - either around the hairline or in one of the creases of the forehead. For an endoscopic brow lift, the cosmetic surgeon will make several smaller incisions and insert an endoscope (a metal tube with a camera attached to the end) so that they can see the tissues underneath the skin on a television screen.
In both cases, the surgeon will remove fatty tissue underneath the skin, loosen the muscles and remove a section of skin. They will then pull the skin down and stitch the brow into its new position.
Forehead and brow lift is a surgical procedure. Sometimes non-surgical rejuvenation treatments such as Botox may delay the need for a brow lift.
However, nonsurgical techniques are not permanent and will not achieve the same results.
Forehead lift surgery can improve:
A brow and forehead lift will make you look younger and fresher, and should give a boost to your self-confidence but it will not give you a totally different look. Before you decide to have cosmetic surgery, think carefully about your expectations and discuss them candidly with your plastic surgeon.
How Will I Feel after Brow and Forehead Lift Surgery?
Straight after surgery you will probably feel tired, sleepy and feel some discomfort and pain especially in the first few post operative days. Your plastic surgeon will also prescribe antibiotics to prevent potential infection and you will also be given tablets to reduce any swelling.
You might also notice that you feel unhappy or depressed a few days after surgery. This is a normal consequence of stress and of undergoing general anaesthetic, frustration with the healing process, more pain than you expected or the fact that you are away from your home and family.
Important, Before You Fly:
Please advise us if you are taking aspirins, as we need to make sure that you have at least two clear weeks of not taking them, before any operation.

Brow and Forehead Lift Surgery
This procedure should only be carried out by a qualified surgeon with relevant skills and experience.Types of Brow and Forehead Lift
- The Endoscopic Brow Lift – this is the newest technique available. In carrying out this surgery the surgeon uses an endoscope; a tiny camera probe to visualise the underlying musculature and tissue of the brow. The advantage of this technique is that no scalp tissue is removed; and there is partial removal of the corrugator muscle. The plastic surgeon needs to place only 4 small incisions out of sight in the hairline. A possible disadvantage is that the procedure may raise your hairline by about one-half inches.
- The Coronal Brow Lift – this is the traditional approach where the surgeon makes an incision from ear to ear, across the top of the head.. With this technique the corrugator muscles (muscles that cause frowning) are removed and so is excess scalp skin. The disadvantage of this technique is that the scar runs across the scalp and is longer than the scar from endoscopic brow lift. Prolonged numbness of the scalp has also been a problem with this procedure.
Forehead and brow lift is a surgical procedure. Sometimes non-surgical rejuvenation treatments such as Botox may delay the need for a brow lift.
However, nonsurgical techniques are not permanent and will not achieve the same results.
- Botox injection –the wrinkles that form at the outside of your eyes, “ crow’s feet “ will not be improved by a forehead or brow lift. Crow’s feet are dynamic wrinkles formed by repetitive facial expression. With Botox injections plastic surgeon or dermatologist can weaken the muscles to some extent to eliminate or improve the look of these wrinkles.
- Laser resurfacing – Will help to maximize wrinkle reduction and can be combined with the forehead lift. Quite often plastic surgeons will use CO2 laser as laser resurfacing treats layers of damaged skin and at the same time smoothes fine wrinkles.
- Upper Eyelid cosmetic surgery – if you have excess upper eyelid skin or eyelid puffiness this will not be alleviated by a forehead lift. You may consider upper eyelid cosmetic surgery (Blepharoplasty).
If you are considering a Brow and Forehead Lift
As people age, the forehead naturally sags and eyebrows drop contributing to heavy looking upper eyelids. Our faces are always on display and the effects of gravity, exposure to the sun and the stresses of daily life can all be seen. A Brow lift can "put the clock back" by improving the most visible signs of aging by restoring the forehead skin to a more normal position.Forehead lift surgery can improve:
- brow position
- lateral hoods
- scowl lines
- horizontal forehead wrinkles
The Best Candidates for a Brow and Forehead Lift
The best candidate for a brow and forehead lift is a patient whose eyebrows and forehead have begun to droop, but where some elasticity remains in the skin and where bone structure is well defined.A brow and forehead lift will make you look younger and fresher, and should give a boost to your self-confidence but it will not give you a totally different look. Before you decide to have cosmetic surgery, think carefully about your expectations and discuss them candidly with your plastic surgeon.
Preparation for Brow and Forehead Lift
Patients are asked to come for the operation without make-up and with washed hair. Pharmaceuticals containing acetylsalicylic acid (Acylpirin, Aspirin, and Anopyrin etc.) are not to be used for 3 weeks before the cosmetic surgery, as they affect the clotting capability of the blood. If you smoke you are advised to stop smoking or at least to cut down prior to your surgery. Smoking slows down the recovery process and can also pose an increased risk of complications.
Brow and Forehead Lift – Operation
Brow and Forehead Lift surgery is performed in an operating theatre under general (intravenous) anaesthesia and will takes 60–90 minutes. The most commonly used technique is endoscopic brow and forehead lift when of4 incisions 2 centimetres long are placed behind the hairline around the forehead and temples. Scarring using this method will be almost invisible, “hidden” within the area of hair growth.
After making the incisions the surgeon lifts and separates the fat and skin from the underlying muscle. Next the corrugator muscles are partially excised and the scalp is manipulated into the desired position. Elevating brows to a "natural" level is the best result from this procedure.

Post-operational Course – Brow and Forehead Lift
During the first few days after the operation, it will be necessary for a brow lift patient to sleep only on their back to prevent swelling on one side or post-operative bruising. Hair can be washed 5 days after the operation and patients can resume wearing contact lenses one week after operation. Plastic surgeons performing brow lift procedures tend to use classical stitches, which need to be removed in 7–8 days after the surgery.
Healing is very much individual. Bruising and swelling generally resolve in 10–14 days and decreased sensitivity can occur on the skin for some time after operation.
Bandages are removed after a few days and after two weeks patients can resume everyday activities. Prolonged exposure to the sun should be avoided for at least 2 months after treatment and final results are seen 2–4 weeks after operation

Is the Brow and Forehead Lift Recovery Painful?
According to our client’s experience pain was not an overwhelming feature of their recovery. When you leave the clinic you will be prescribe painkillers by your surgeon. You will probably feel some discomfort, swelling, heaviness, and numbness in the areas where surgery was performed and this is quite normal and will subside in time.Possible Risks and Complications – Brow and Forehead Lift
The specific risks and the suitability of brow and forehead lift for any patient can be determined only at the time of consultation. All surgical procedures carry a degree of risk and although minor complications can occur they do not usually affect the outcome of surgery. Major complications with a brow lift are rare.Important, Before You Fly:
