MEDICAL QUESTIONNAIRE

Eyelid (Eyebag) Surgery (Blepharoplasty) - Cosmetic Surgey Abroad, Prague, Czech Republic.

This cosmetic operation - eyelid surgery specifically addresses ageing lines around the eyes. It reduces the folds of tissue on the upper and lower eyelids giving a more youthful appearance. Where applicable the individual laughter lines can be improved if necessary.

In cases where a full facial uplift is required we start with a face and neck lift operation first to be followed by an eyelid operation.

This operation, Eyelid (Eyebag) Surgery (Blepharoplasty), performed by your cosmetic surgeon solves problems of change affected by aging. The operation dramatically improves these signs with good results. The procedure can either be done on upper or lower eyelids or both eyelids, depending on your surgeon’s advice.

If it is necessary to solve the symptom of aging to the entire face, first we start with the face-lift and neck-lift operation, followed later with the eyelid operation.

During this operation we are unable to improve soft mimic wrinkle (laughter-lines). These lines are caused by the influence of mimicry facial muscles and are individual to each person

The Best Candidates for Eyelid Cosmetic Surgery

Blepharoplasty can enhance your appearance and your self-confidence, but it won't necessarily change your looks to match your ideal, or cause other people to treat you differently. Before you decide to have surgery, think carefully about your expectations and discuss them with your surgeon.

The best candidates for eyelid surgery are men and women who are physically healthy, psychologically stable, and realistic in their expectations. Most are 35 or older, but if droopy, baggy eyelids run in your family, you may decide to have eyelid surgery at a younger age.

Preparation – Eyelid Surgery (Blepharoplasty)

You should come to the operation without make-up. Pharmaceuticals containing acetylsalicylic acid (Acylpirin, Aspirin, and Anopyrin etc.) should not be used for 3 weeks before the Eyelid Lift cosmetic surgery, as they decrease clotting time of blood.

If you are a smoker you are advised to stop smoking or at least to cut down on cigarettes. Smoking slows down the recovery process and it can also increase the risk of complications.

Types of Surgery

Classical Method - Through an external cut.

Operation and post-operative care:-

  • Operation is carried out under local anaesthetic (general anaesthetic is also possible).
  • Surgeon makes an incision on lower eye-lid runs from brim of your lid 3-4mm under the eyelashes to the outer edge.
  • Operative incision on upper eye-lid is located to the skin contour of your eye-lid, sometimes it is necessary to exceed the incision border of the outer edge to perfect removal of skin surplus.
  • Immediately after the operation is applied a compress and bandages.
  • Post-operative swelling of the eyelids and subcuticular suffusion is usual.
  • It is recommended to stay relaxed and use the cold compress during the day.
  • The stitches are removed 4-6 days after operation and it is recommended to apply compress during the night for following 10-14 days.
  • Any sport or physical lifting is not recommended for the first 3-4 weeks.
  • After 14 days is possible to start using cosmetics (make-up etc.)

This information represents a general guide for post-operative recovery, but healing times are individual. You will spend 1 night in clinic after operation. You are then recommended to stay for a further 4-6 nights in hotel before you will have stitches removed.

Transconjuctival Blepharoplasty:
LOWER EYELID - Incision is made on the inside of the eyelid.

Transconjuctival blepharoplasty is a cosmetic surgery procedure that is performed to improve the appearance of the eyes in order to create a more youthful look. The transconjuctival blepharoplasty procedure involves removing the excess fat deposits in the lower eyelid through an incision on the inside of the eyelid.

A transconjuctival blepharoplasty procedure may not be appropriate for patients with the following conditions: low tearing, thyroid disease, hypertension, glaucoma, or detached retina.

It is important for patients to have realistic expectations about the transconjuctival blepharoplasty procedure. This procedure will correct the sagging of the lower eyelids caused by excessive fat deposits. Additional procedures may be required if a patient is concerned with dark circles, wrinkles and other physical characteristics they wish to change about the appearance of their eyes and face.

The transconjuctival blepharoplasty procedure takes anywhere from one to three hours. The transconjuctival blepharoplasty procedure itself involves the surgeon making a small incision on the inside of the eyelid so that s/he can tease out the excess fat deposits located below the eyes.

There are several advantages to the transconjuctival blepharoplasty procedure. Because the incision is made on the inside of the eyelid, no scars will be visible following the surgery. The transconjuctival blepharoplasty procedure also has a lower risk of post-operative complications, as compared to more invasive blepharoplasty techniques involving external incisions.

After the transconjuctival blepharoplasty procedure is complete the patient will be sent home with specific care instructions. These should be carefully followed in order to minimize potential post-operative risks. A patient may be advised to take antibiotics, pain medication, and use cold compresses to ease the pain and swelling that may occur. Patients usually recover two to four weeks after the surgery. If you are interested in learning more about this procedure please contact us to find a qualified surgeon near you.

Post-Operational Course – Eyelids Surgery (Blepharoplasty)

After the operation, an ophthalmic cream is applied, along with a dressing soaked in a very cold saline solution, to reduce discomfort and inflammation. The principal swelling and bruises will vanish within a week, make-up can be worn 10 days after the surgery, and it is possible to go out with sun glasses on within 4–5 days, the stitches are removed 6–7 days after the eyelid lift surgery.

During the first few days after the operation sleeping on the back is recommended so as to prevent the appearance of swelling on one side of the operated lids. It is important to get as much rest as you can, this way your recovery will be faster.

This can be clinic dependant, but typically it will follow this format: During your recovery period sterile compresses (squares) with cool boric acid, or, as the case may be, boiled water (after cooling off) should be put on the lids every 3–6 hours. One day before the stitches are removed, the plasters on the lids should be greased with Opthalmo-septonex. They should be removed in the evening, and in the morning the stitches must be thoroughly greased once more.

Most patients are able to get back to everyday activities after 10–12 days.

How Will I feel After the Surgery?

You will probably feel tired and sleepy particularly during the first three days after the surgery. You will be given some painkillers and tablets to reduce the swelling.

You might also feel unhappy after a few days. This is normal and is caused due to the stress, general anaesthetic, lack of patience with the healing problems, more pain than you expected or the fact that because you underwent eyelids cosmetic surgery abroad you miss your home and family.

Is the Eyelid Surgery Recovery Painful?

Many of our clients report they feel little or no pain, however, when you leave the clinic you will be prescribed painkillers as a precaution. You are likely to feel some swelling and discomfort and perhaps some numbness in the areas where surgery has been performed.

Possible Risks and Complications – Eyelid Surgery (Blepharoplasty)

The specific risks and the suitability of cosmetic eyelid surgery for a given individual can be determined only at the time of consultation. All surgical procedures have some degree of risk. Minor complications that do not affect the outcome occur occasionally. Major complications are rare.

The risks of upper and lower eyelid surgery include temporarily blurred vision, infection, scarring, inability to close eyes, lower eyelid sagging, and dry eyes.
If you have glaucoma or dry eyes which don’t produce enough tears, there is a higher risk of problems following the treatment and eyelid surgery may not be suitable for you.
