When Things Go Wrong - Mandy's Strory

When they go wrong, things can go very wrong. Take Mandy who had her 1st breast augmentation performed in Brussels. Mandy says,

”At the time of my first (and only) consultation in his London office he explained to me about the procedure and what I needed. I told the surgeon how unhappy I was with the ‘look’ of my breasts as they had dropped somewhat and asked for modulation as well as augmentation. However he disagreed that I needed this and ensured me implants would solve my ‘problem’.

The surgeon took photos of my breasts that day and gave me a telephone number to ring and arrange an ‘op’ date. I arrived in Brussels for my surgery on the 15th November before even seeing the surgeon I was asked to pay £ 2,500 I did so, and then waited for the surgeon. He appeared after only a short wait and invited me into a room where we had a short discussion about what was going to happen and to take more photos of my breasts. He gave me some garments to dress into, in preparation of the surgery.

I walked into the theatre with a nurse and got on the operating table where I was anaesthetised. I must add… whilst ‘out cold’ on the table the surgeon went into the waiting room where my friend was and told her the size implants I had requested had not arrived and I could have either small? Or large? My friend said “probably large ones”. (Not really knowing how large) I had originally asked to be about a size‘D’ cup. I was a ‘C’.” This is alarming enough, but Mandy’s story gets worse.

”It didn’t seem long before I was awake and dressed; we were ushered into a waiting taxi and went to a hotel to stay for one night! I had no more contact with the surgeon in Brussels I was told I would see him a week later in London. So off home to England I went!

At first I was pleased with the results, even though I was so much bigger than I originally wanted. But 4 months later March 2006 I realized I had developed capsular contracture (I only knew this because of question asking on internet sites).

I contacted the surgeon and he invited me back to London for him to see. He agreed I had capsular contracture and told me I would have to go back to Brussels where he would take out that implant release the capsule, and put it back. I didn’t expect this but I was aware that capsular contracture is a very unlucky problem that can occur. Whilst I was with the surgeon and knowing I would be going back I asked him about correcting my flat nipples (not inverted) he said he could do it and the whole cost for removal of capsule and for nipple op it would be £1,800 not including flights and accommodation. So off I went to Brussels.

Worse was yet to come, I had the op and was dressed within an hour of coming out of the surgery, the bra I was wearing was an under wired bra… this was put back on me!! Consider… I had just had one of my breast cut open underneath! Of course I was not ‘with it’ so it was out of my control.

Again in a taxi I went and off to the hotel for one night then home. Then in May I was back because the nipple correction failed too!

(And is still not right) As I type this it is July not even a year since first surgery and I’m so discontent. My breast has developed capsular contracture again and the nipple correction has left me with kind of slits for nipples!

I can no longer get a reply from the surgeon, either by phone or e-mail!”

Mandy’s story goes on with a diary she kept from August when she came to us at Bodies Beautiful. After her experience she had done her homework and eventually decided to email us to see if we could help her. We were able, using the original ‘before photos’ that she had taken herself, to see what she should have had done. After talking Mandy through the options she had and what we would recommend for her as well as giving her options for where to stay in Prague, Mandy and her husband decided to proceed. We felt for Mandy who had had such a horrible experience and we were determined to help her get the results that she wanted so badly. Under the expert care of Dr.Visek our cosmetic surgeon Mandy was able, by October of the same year, to report that she was delighted with her results and more than happy that she had come to us at Bodies Beautiful.
